Farewell to Manzanar: My First Thoughts
When I first started reading Farewell to Manzanar, I thought about how it was similar to the other books I read that were also about the wars and the tough times different races and religions had. The books that resembled Farewell to Manzanar were The Diary of Anne Frank, which I read part of, and this other book I read that was also about a Japanese girl hiding during World War II. I also thought about how the poor Japanese were sent to a horrible internment camp, even though they did nothing wrong. This story strongly resembles The Diary of Anne Frank, but it tells more of the time spent in camp and the Wakatsukis trying to get used to the outside life after getting out of camp then about hiding from the camp, like Anne Frank's diary was. To me, this book was very interesting, and after reading the first page, I couldn't put it down.
